WordCamp Warsaw 2022 was a special event. After two years of pandemic break, webinars and Zoom calls finally gave way to handshakes, corridor conversations, and “coffee from the machine” in the real world.
The energy was incredible. You could see how much the WordPress community (both veterans and newcomers) needed this contact.
My presentation: Modern CSS IN WordPress
I had the pleasure of presenting on a topic that lies at the intersection of design and development. You can watch the video of the talk on YouTube (link below, starts at 1:38:55).
Main points:
- Flexbox and Grid are standard: Don’t be afraid to use them. Browser support is complete (even IE is slowly fading into oblivion).
- Container Queries: This is the future of responsiveness. Instead of looking at screen width (Media Queries), we look at the width of the container where the component sits.
- WordPress and CSS: How are Gutenberg and FSE (Full Site Editing) changing the way we think about styles?
theme.jsonis becoming the newstyle.css.
Why is it worth attending wordcamps?
Warsaw 2022 confirmed an old truth: you can find knowledge on the internet, but business and relationships are built offline.
- I met people I had worked with remotely for 5 years but had never seen in person.
- Conversations in the sponsor zone gave me more insight into the hosting market than hundreds of read articles.
If you’re wondering whether it’s worth buying a ticket to the next WordCamp (Gdynia, Gliwice, or Europe) – don’t hesitate. It’s the best investment in your career in the WP ecosystem.
